Popcorn trailmix is the perfect balance of sweet and salty. Plus this recipe is high in fiber from the popcorn, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit!

Dark Chocolate Trail Mix
This recipe could easily be a dark chocolate trailmix. I love using dark chocolate chips in this trailmix to give a slightly sweet, rich chocolate flavor to compliment the salty popcorn and nuts, and sweet and tangy dried fruit. You can sub your favorite chocolate or omit altogether!
Fall Trail Mix
If you want to make this a festive fall trail mix, I love adding a couple sprinkles of cinnamon to the bowl before tossing everything together! You could also use cinnamon cereal and/or cinnamon coated almonds!
Ingredient Highlights
- Popcorn - I love popcorn and eat it allll the time (hence why I love this popcorn trailmix!). It's a good complex carbohydrate because it contains fiber. If you love salty and crunchy snacks, popcorn is a great option! Just be wary of popcorn with added butter/oils that can be high in saturated fat.
- Cereal - classic toasted oat cereal like Cheerios are my favorite to add to this cereal because they contain fiber and are low in added sugar. You can use your favorite cereal here if you want to switch it up!
- Nuts & seeds - both are rich sources of unsaturated fats and some plant-based protein. You can sub any for whatever kind you prefer!
- Dried fruit - dried fruit does contain fiber but can be a sneaky source of added sugars. For this reason, I always look for a no-sugar-added or reduced-sugar option! This recipe calls for dried cranberries and apricots but you can use your favorite.
- Dark chocolate chips - what's a sweet and salty trailmix without chocolate?! Dark chocolate chips are a great addition here but you can sub your favorite chocolate or omit altogether.
How to Make Popcorn Trailmix
Recipe FAQ
This recipe mixes toasted oat cereal, dried fruit, nuts, seeds, and dark chocolate with popcorn and the end result is amazing! It's a healthy, balanced snack perfect any time of day.
A lot of people ask me about trailmix and whether it's "healthy" or not. It's all about the portion size because while trailmix can be full of good nutrients like complex carbohydrates and unsaturated fat, it can be quite energy dense. Plus the dried fruit and chocolate can contribute quite a bit of added sugar. I personally measure out my portion before eating to keep myself in check!
Simply gather the ingredients (popcorn, peanuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, dried apricots, cereal, & dark chocolate chips) and place into a large mixing bowl or resealable plastic bag. Toss together and enjoy!
