Hummus salad dressing starts with a hummus base, and then combines oil, vinegar, and seasonings. The end result is a creamy, rich dressing full of fiber, healthy fats, and a little protein!

How to Make Salad Dressing
Homemade salad dressing is easier to make than you may think. Start with a base of oil and vinegar, which has endless combinations from balsamic vinegar to champagne vinegar to apple cider vinegar, and then add your favorite seasonings!
This hummus salad dressing starts with whisking hummus, extra virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and a little salt. Then I add a touch of sweetness from honey and voila! Homemade hummus salad dressing that goes well on salads or as a dip for veggies or meat!
Hummus Dressing
I love using hummus in salad dressings because it's full of complex carbohydrates from the chickpeas, which are a good source of fiber and do contain some protein. Tahini, or sesame seed butter/paste, is also a main component of hummus. This is full of healthy fats from the sesame seeds. Using hummus in salad dressing is a way to boost the nutrient content of your salads or dips (if you use this dressing as a dip) and will give you long lasting energy!
Ingredient Highlights
- Hummus - the star of this recipe! Hummus contains chickpeas and tahini, which provide complex carbohydrates and healthy fats. You can use any flavor of hummus you'd like! We like to make our own because it's too easy!
- Vinegar - this recipe calls for apple cider vinegar but you can use whatever you have on hand!
- Extra virgin olive oil - this is the best type of olive oil to use in salad dressings because of its rich, robust flavor.
- Honey - for a touch of sweetness, I use a couple teaspoons of honey. You can omit this altogether or tweak the amount, depending on your taste preference!
Recipe FAQ
Absolutely! This is our favorite recipe. Hummus on its own may to be too thick to use as a dressing, so we thin it out with some extra virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and a little bit of honey.
Aside from the honey, yes! You can use a vegan sweetener in lieu of honey to make it completely vegan.
This hummus dressing is great on salads, grain bowls, or as a dip for roasted/fresh veggies or meat.

This dressing is so good and a great way to use leftover hummus. I did add a little bit more sugar than the recipe called for but it was delicious!
