This everything bagel hummus recipe is my favorite way to put a spin on traditional hummus: it has simple ingredients, a creamy texture, extraordinary taste, and makes an easy snack to satisfy that mid-afternoon craving.

I love making this hummus as a great addition to game-day snacks or any charcuterie board along with fresh veggies like sliced cucumbers, celery sticks, bell peppers, and baby carrots and other dip recipes like Greek yogurt ranch dip and healthy buffalo chicken dip. Plus it's easy to whip up some homemade tortilla chips as well!

    Equipment

    • Blender or food processor - this piece of equipment is key to a smooth and creamy hummus! I use a blender but either are a great way to get a silky texture.
    • Can opener - since this recipe calls for canned chickpeas as opposed to dried, you want a good can opener!
    • Rubber spatula - it helps to scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure even mixing.

    Ingredients

Full ingredients, measurements, and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

    Everything bagel hummus ingredients
    • Garbanzo beans (or chickpeas) - I prefer using canned chickpeas because they're easier and quicker to use. Keep the liquid for a smooth creamy hummus! Chickpeas are a good source of complex carbohydrates, plant based protein, and fiber.
    • Sesame tahini - a sesame seed paste or butter, rich in unsaturated fats. Tahini is a staple ingredient in hummus! It can be found in the nut butter sections at the grocery store.
    • High quality extra virgin olive oil - a high quality EVOO will be a darkish green color and have a fruity yet almost spicy flavor to it. This will make a delicious hummus even more flavorful!
    • Lemon juice - the acid from the juice helps to cut the fat from the tahini and olive oil. Lime juice would work too!
    • Everything But the Bagel Seasoning - most grocery stores have this in the spice aisle. You can also make it at home as it consists of poppy seeds, black sesame seeds, garlic flakes, and onion flakes!
    • Optional: a tablespoon or two of cold water if needed to loosen hummus up and 2 teaspoons of table salt if the Everything But the Bagel Seasoning isn't enough!

    How to Make Homemade Hummus

First: Combine a can of chickpeas, tahini, EVOO, lemon juice, and seasoning in a blender.

Second: blend the mixture on high until the texture is smooth and creamy.

Third: Serve in a shallow bowl with a sprinkle of more Everything Bagel seasoning with pita or crackers and veggies on the side for an easy appetizer or healthy snack!

    Variations & Substitutions

Instead of the everything bagel seasoning blend, these flavors would blend well into the hummus base as well:

    • Roasted garlic
    • Roasted red peppers
    • Pesto
    • Sundried tomatoes

To make a Mediterranean dip, you can layer this hummus (sans everything bagel seasoning) with diced tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese, and kalamata olives. Or make Mediterranean grain bowls and add a dollop of hummus!

If you can't find tahini, I would try sunflower butter or a smooth almond butter. Any nut or seed butter without a strong flavor (unlike peanut butter) should be a good substitute!

    Pro Tips & Storage

The biggest pro tip for this recipe is to keep the chickpea liquid that comes in the can! It really contributes to the texture of this Boar's Head everything bagel hummus copycat recipe. It blends nicely and makes the end result silky smooth.

Store this hummus in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Since freezing may cause the dip to separate, I recommend eating it fresh (ideally after it sits in the fridge for a couple of hours to thicken up) or within 5 days of making it!

    Recipe FAQ

What do you eat with everything bagel hummus?

I love serving this hummus with sliced cucumbers, bell peppers, celery sticks, baby carrots, pita bread, or any whole grain cracker!

Can I use dried chickpeas instead of canned?

Absolutely! My recipe is for canned chickpeas, but you can soak dried chickpeas in water and use them in place of canned chickpeas.

How do I thicken my hummus?

Use less liquid! We use the liquid that comes in the can of chickpeas to add creaminess and thicken it some. If you prefer thicker hummus, use less of the liquid. On the flip side, if you like it thinner, add more lemon juice or a tablespoon or two of water!

    Is everything bagel hummus healthy?

Everything in moderation, of course! But this everything bagel hummus is healthy and uses just 4 ingredients: chickpeas, tahini, extra virgin olive oil, and Everything But The Bagel Seasoning!
