A southside fizz cocktail is a refreshing cocktail made with gin, fresh lemon juice, fresh lime juice, jalapeno simple syrup, and fresh mint leaves, topped off with soda water to give it the "fizz." It's kind of like a gin mojito mixed with a tom collins, so if you like either, this will be your new favorite cocktail recipe!
This southside cocktail recipe is made with fresh ingredients and is refreshing to sip on by the pool, lounging on the back porch with friends and family, or to enjoy during an at-home happy hour! We also love making other cocktail recipes like a skinny spicy margarita, garden city cocktail, and lavender lemonade cocktail on occasion too 🙂

Equipment
- Cocktail shaker - although not totally necessary, it's fun to use a cocktail shaker when making drinks! You could also combine all of the ingredients in a glass and stir with a spoon.
- Measuring cup - I recommend using a small one that can measure ounces. This will be easiest for measuring the ingredients!
- Glass - you can use any classic cocktail glass for this southside fizz cocktail. A highball glass or a shorter stemless glass, or even a chilled coupe glass will work!
Ingredients
Full ingredients, measurements, and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Gin - you can use any gin you'd like. We love using Empress 1908 because of it's beautiful purple color!
- Fresh lemon juice & fresh lime juice - using fresh juices really elevates any cocktail as opposed to using store-bought.
- Soda water - soda water gives this cocktail the "fizz" and bubbles. We use regular but you can use flavored like lemon lime!
- Jalapeno simple syrup - this simple syrup adds a little bit of heat and sweetness. I love making it at home to control the amount of sugar used!
- Mint - this will get muddled in the cocktail shaker before mixing the remaining ingredients. I like to use an extra mint sprig or two for garnishing the glass when the drink is poured!
- Ice - you can use either crushed ice or large cubes if you like large pieces of ice in cocktails to prevent them from getting watered down quickly.
How to Make a Southside Fizz Cocktail
1: Muddle fresh mint leaves in a cocktail shaker.
2: Add gin, syrup, and fresh juices. Shake until combined, ~5-10 seconds. Set aside.
3: Fill cocktail glass halfway with ice and pour cocktail over ice. Top with soda water, garnish with a mint leaf, and enjoy!
Variations & Substitutions
- You can use regular or zero sugar ginger ale in lieu of club soda to give this south side fizz a ginger flavor!
- We are obsessed with Empress Gin because of the vibrant purple color but you can use a dry gin if you prefer a less sweeter gin.
Pro Tips
I love using lower sugar jalapeno simple syrup because it's a lower sugar syrup compared to a lot of commercial options! However, you can use any syrup you'd like, or even honey!
