Enjoying a salted caramel oat milk latte is a great start to your day. Not only is this recipe simple and delicious, it's lower in calories and added sugar than your traditional salted caramel latte!

Oat Milk Latte Recipe
Making lattes at home doesn't have to be crazy difficult and doing so will most likely save you money! Plus, you have more control over what goes in them. This means you can use more natural ingredients and less of the super sweet syrups (which are okay every once in a while!).
This oat milk latte recipe calls for creamy date caramel instead of traditional caramel, which although delicious, is made from butter and sugar. So you can imagine the nutrition benefit for regular caramel is fairly low. The date caramel is made from dates, which contain quite a bit of sugar so you don't want to overconsume them, but it's a natural sugar. They're also loaded with fiber, which helps keep that blood sugar spike a little lower.
Once the date caramel is ready, blend or froth it in oat milk or any milk of your choice. Pour the date milk mixture into hot or iced coffee, sprinkle with sea salt, and there you have it! A salted caramel oat milk latte.
You can use any milk you'd like for this recipe! Oat milk has some nutrition benefits, including a source of fiber and B vitamins. However, it is lower in protein than cow's and soy milks. Be sure to get unsweetened oat milk, at least for this recipe because the date caramel provides ample sweetness! Also, if you have celiac disease or gluten-intolerance, be sure to look for a Certified Gluten-Free label on the container.
Iced Oat Milk Latte
You can enjoy this salted caramel oat milk latte hot or cold, which makes it great to enjoy any time of year. To make it iced, simply chill brewed coffee or bring it to room temp. You can use hot but it may taste watered down from the ice melting quicker! Make the recipe as directed but before pouring the date milk mixture into the coffee, pour the coffee over ice, then add the milk and sprinkle with sea salt.
Ingredient Highlights - Salted Caramel Oat Milk Latte
- Oat milk - oat milk is creamier than some other plant-based milks and a source of B vitamins and fiber. I buy unsweetened oat milk to cut back on added sugar intake (and this recipe is sweet enough from the date caramel)!
- Date caramel - you can purchase a pre-made caramel or make your own! My favorite recipe is easy - just blend dates with a splash of milk, vanilla extract, and sea salt!
- Coffee - regular or decaf coffee will work equally as well in this recipe. If you want to make an iced latte, either chill the coffee before using or bring it to room temp. Pour the black coffee over ice then stir in the date milk mixture! Believe it or not, coffee contains antioxidants, which help fight inflammation. However, the benefit of the antioxidants may be negated when black coffee is mixed with highly processed creams and sugars.
- Sea salt - the sea salt is what makes the caramel salted, but you can omit this if you prefer!
Recipe FAQ
Yes! It's slightly creamier than almond milk but not as strongly flavored as cows or soy milk. Plus it contains some fiber and B vitamins!
Yep! Since the date caramel and oat milk are vegan and dairy-free, the whole recipe is! You can use whatever milk you like though.
The answer to this depends on what you put in the latte. If you use minimal added sugars in your latte, then an oat milk latte is a good choice. But if you add different sugars and syrups to make the latte extra sweet, the health benefits significantly decrease.

This latte was so good! I definitely needed the frother to really combine the caramel and milk, otherwise it was a little chunky. The sea salt is a nice touch.
