Crawfish boil hot fried chicken. Need we say more? We found Picnic Provisions and Whiskey on insta and HAD to try it for lunch while in New Orleans one day, and we're so glad we did. The ambiance was laid back, casual, and fun - kinda like you're at a picnic.. The name is definitely fitting!
Located on Magazine Street, it's in a great spot. Magazine Street is full of shopping and restaurants, and Picnic just adds to the existing vibe. The menu is full of Southern favorites and they do it well.
To Start
First, we started with a couple of apps. These crab and corn beignets came with a creamy green Thai dipping sauce and pepper jelly. The flavor and texture combinations (crunchy, savory beignets combined with a creamy yet tangy sauce and a hint of sweetness from the pepper jelly) were wonderful and we would recommend trying these!
Next, we ordered the pimento cheese dip with homemade chips. It was like a deconstructed pimento cheese and not gonna lie, it was fun to mix everything together! The homemade chips were an excellent touch and provided a complimentary salty crunchiness to the tangy cheesiness.
Main Dishes
Of course, we had to get the crawfish boil hot chicken sandwich as one of our main dishes. It even came with hot "crispies" on top. We loved the deliciousness and creativity!
We also ordered the tenders, which came with a deep fried biscuit. Yes - a flakey, buttery biscuit that is deep fried. Mind blown.
Overall, Picnic Provisions and Whiskey was a great experience. It's the type of place you go for drinks with friends on Friday after work if you live in New Orleans or to grab lunch on the weekend. If you don't live in New Orleans, we recommend adding Picnic to your restaurant list.
