Why You'll Love This Pumpkin Pie Greek Yogurt Recipe
This pumpkin pie dip with Greek yogurt is absolutely delicious and just tastes like fall. It calls for only 4 ingredients and comes together in just minutes! Plus this pumpkin pie yogurt recipe is versatile: you can eat it as is, in pumpkin Greek yogurt parfaits, creamy pumpkin pie oatmeal, or pumpkin pie smoothies.
Pumpkin Greek yogurt is a great way to have a filling breakfast that tastes just like a slice of pumpkin pie!
Equipment
- Large bowl - you want a big enough mixing bowl to combine all of the ingredients. I like to use a large bowl to mix everything and then serve the pumpkin yogurt in a nicer dish!
- Rubber spatula - I've found this works best for fully combining all of the ingredients. You can use any sort of large spoon as well!
Ingredients
Full ingredients, measurements, and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Vanilla Greek yogurt - Greek yogurt is a great source of high quality protein and probiotics, which are crucial for gut health. You can use plain Greek yogurt if you like it less sweet! Fat-free Greek yogurt works well in this recipe but if you like it a little creamier, I recommend choosing a low-fat Greek yogurt.
- Pumpkin puree - this gives this easy recipe the real pumpkin flavor! Pumpkin is a very nutritious food, and a source of fiber and vitamin A, which can help with vision and fighting inflammation. Be sure to use pure pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling! Pumpkin pie filling would definitely work in this recipe, but contains some sugar and spices that are already included in the recipe.
- Ground cinnamon & pumpkin pie spice - these add the classic pumpkin pie flavor to this creamy yogurt recipe!
- Pure maple syrup or honey (optional) - this is optional depending on your sweetness preference. If you use maple syrup, I highly recommend using pure maple syrup! Cheaper maple syrups tend to be corn syrup with artificial flavors.
- Pure vanilla extract (optional) - vanilla extract rounds out the flavors and makes this taste like classic pumpkin pie!
How to Make Pumpkin Pie Greek Yogurt
1: Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
2: Stir with a rubber spatula until combined.
Variations & Substitutions
- You can use any type of yogurt you'd like: vanilla yogurt or plain yogurt (I highly recommend Greek yogurt over regular to get the extra protein), fat-free Greek yogurt or low-fat Greek yogurt, or even dairy-free yogurt to make this recipe vegan!
- Brown sugar could be used in lieu of pure maple syrup or honey as a sweetener. If you use brown sugar instead, I'd let the yogurt mixture sit in the refrigerator for a few hours to give the sugar time to dissolve! Otherwise the yogurt may have a grittier texture.
Pro Tips
- Be sure to really scrape the sides of the bowl when mixing the ingredients. You want to make sure the yogurt, pumpkin puree, and spices all mix together really well!
- I prefer to use pumpkin puree over pumpkin pie filling, as the filling can be loaded with added sugars. Plus this recipe has the option to add some pure maple syrup or honey if you want it a little sweeter!
Serving & Storing
- SERVING:This pumpkin pie Greek yogurt is fantastic on it's own, but here are some ways I like to eat it:
- In a smoothie - pumpkin pie smoothies are a delicious way to satisfy that pumpkin pie craving! I mix the yogurt with milk, banana, frozen cauliflower (just a little bit! This will thicken the smoothie while adding fiber and vitamin C), and extra dashes of cinnamon and vanilla extract. Blend it up and enjoy!
- Pumpkin pie parfaits - I like to layer this yogurt with homemade whipped cream and homemade granola in a mason jar or clear container to make a pumpkin pie parfait for a sweet treat.
- Pumpkin yogurt bowls - after putting some pumpkin pie Greek yogurt in a small bowl, I top it with chopped nuts or a swirl of natural nut butter, cereal or homemade granola, and a dash of cinnamon! You can also sprinkle some chocolate chips on top too.
- Creamy pumpkin pie oatmeal - make oatmeal (my favorite is using old fashioned oats and milk) and stir in some of this pumpkin spice yogurt. I love to sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans or pumpkin seeds on top for a nice crunch!
- STORING: Store the yogurt in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. I don't recommend freezing it as yogurt gets weird in the freezer, but if you portion it out in an ice cube tray and freeze, the cubes can easily be added to smoothies!
Recipe FAQ
It is a better alternative to traditional pumpkin dip that calls for cream cheese, Cool Whip, and/or pudding mix (but if that's what you love, make that! It's all about moderation). This recipe uses Greek yogurt as the base so you get some protein and probiotics that you wouldn't get in the traditional version!
I love serving apple slices and graham crackers or ginger snaps with this pumpkin pie Greek yogurt! It also makes a delicious yogurt bowl with crushed walnuts or pecans and a dash of cinnamon on top. I'm a fan of adding some homemade granola or puffed quinoa for an extra crunch (plus quinoa has protein and fiber!).
Pumpkin pie Greek yogurt should last in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. I only recommend freezing it if you're going to add it to a smoothie - the texture may get a little weird after thawing. Blending it in a smoothie would mix it well enough the texture wouldn't matter!
To make pumpkin yogurt bowls, you want to portion out pumpkin pie Greek yogurt into a bowl. Sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans or pumpkin seeds on top or swirl in some natural nut butter along with some granola or cereal (my favorite is puffed quinoa!) for a nice crunch. I like adding some fresh fruit like chopped apple or sliced banana too! You can add an additional drizzle of honey or maple syrup and a dash of cinnamon, and enjoy!
