The OG Rice Krispie treats are a classic American dessert. They bring back memories of childhood and good times. You can spot the shiny blue wrapper from a mile away and immediately get excited. Plain Rice Krispies are great but I thought, "Hmm. This recipe can actually be quite versatile." Therefore, I decided to try a colorful spin (ha - see what I did there?) on the classic and created this Fruity Pebbles Rice Krispie treats recipe.

Why These Fruity Pebbles Bars are Great
The combination of puffy cereal and gooey marshmallows is genius. Plain Rice Krispie treats are delicious but I love all things festive. Therefore, I wanted to try making these treats with a different cereal and why not try Fruity Pebbles?!
Since these treats are primarily simple carbs (if you want to learn more about carbohydrates, check out this post!), they make a great pre-workout snack! They're low in fiber so they sit well in your gut and give you a quick boost of energy to fuel your exercise.
Ingredient Highlights
- Fruity Pebbles - these are the star of the recipe! You can use any cereal you'd like.
- Marshmallows - marshmallows hold these bars together. I like to add extra marshmallows as I stir together the cereal and marshmallow glue to make sure there's marshmallows in every bite!
- Butter - this is a classic ingredient in any Rice Krispies treat.
What sets these Fruity Pebbles bars apart?
My favorite part of Rice Krispie treats is the gooey marshmallow, so I wanted to make sure there was ample chewy, sweet goodness in this recipe. I melt quite a bit of marshmallows in the butter to form a sticky marshmallow "cement" if you will and then one of the most important parts - I mix in extra mini marshmallows to the mixture once the cereal has been added. That way, you're guaranteed to get chunks of marshmallow in almost every bite.
A little pro tip when it comes to putting the cereal + butter + marshmallow mixture into a pan - spray the pan with non-stick spray so they don't stick. Doing this will allow each square to come out way easier. I also suggest spraying your hand(s) with a light spritz of non-stick spray as well and using them to gently press the cereal mix into the pan. This will keep the treats light and airy and your hands clean(ish).
